День 41. Шибеник.
Чтобы познакомиться с жителями Шибеника XV столетия, достаточно просто взглянуть на скульптурный фриз городского собора. На этих портретах реалистично изображены самые разные типажи и персонажи средневекового общества. Кроме того, здесь представлена вся местная мода того времени на головные уборы, прически, форму усов и бороды.
"The faces have a portrait-like quality and, according to legend, were inspired by the residents of Sibenik, marking the first time so much purely secular sculpture was applied to a religious building. These "portraits" are reflective of Juraj Dlamatinac's Renaissance leanings, marking a departure from the medieval notion of a world dominated by religion to one in which man's awareness of nature and himself allowed for a more scientific approach to the universe. The faces on the exterior frieze are the most distinctive sculptural work associated with the cathedral, overshadowing all conventional religious imagery." (© M. Непонятно как с правами людей, но с правами животных в этом городе, видимо, уже в XVI веке все было в порядке:
